The pandemic has shown that the development of innovations for a sustainable future is a goal to be pursued in the shortest possible time. Among the most dynamic sectors in the world, the Fashion Industry is today an effective tool to push the progress of social and ecological development policies as it’s able to guide the business towards a conscious and worthy use of the resources we can rely on. Innovation, together with safety and the environment, is today the key element lying at the basis of a company’s success: now, the goal is that of developing products that, beyond being performing and useful, are also sustainable, manufactured with renewable materials, health-conscious.

Within the fashion system, the leather supply chain is promoting technological solutions intended to guaranteeing low carbon emissions, low environmental impact and aimed at the protection of biodiversity and of a sustainable development of production processes. This is the same commitment of Aircom Original, a SME boasting a long tradition in the design and manufacture of automatic spray guns in the tanning sector, projected towards a future of sustainable growth pursued through investments in innovation and quality. The national industry 4.0 plan gave Aircom a decisive boost towards machinery innovation and the digital transformation of the production process. But alongside the need for a state-of-the-art range of machines, the unceasing product improvement is essential in order to optimize processing times, reducing material consumption and related polluting emissions into the atmosphere.

The company led by the Trione family has always had its automatic painting spray guns be certified by reliable bodies, so to ensure that the dispersion of paint into the atmosphere is minimal: a reduced overspray means avoiding environmental pollution and it also cuts production costs in the leather finishing phase. “The commitment for the next few years – they explain at Aircom – is to lead the company to increasingly reduce carbon emissions, waste and to use materials from renewable sources: small steps to improve our approach to environment and create a more sustainable corporate future.”

After all, attention to sustainability represents an essential path for companies and is a concept that now reaches all sectors. It is no coincidence that the companies associated with Assomac are called to join the “Supplier of Sustainable Technologies” initiative, which spreads knowledge about the conscious management of natural resources, energy and water consumption, in order to qualify the production process as sustainable. The core of the project is represented by the Green Label, the labeling system on the energy-environmental performance of the technologies used in the sector, based on measurements made according to the international parameters of the CFP (Carbon Footprint of Products).

On the international level, however, a noteworthy initiative is the “Effective waste management and sustainable development”, a project promoted in the state of West Bengal, intended to encourage collaboration between the Indian leather industries and the EU companies producing machinery for advanced leather processing according to environmental standards. The goal is to spread innovative and sustainable production technologies and practices to one of the most populous areas on the planet featuring a highly polluting tanning sector, for the benefit of workers and of the whole community.
