Conceria Nuvolari acquires the status of Benefit Company

We met Sara Santori who explained us what being a Benefit Company and its future involves.

The mantra of Conceria Nuvolari has always been “sustainable innovation and innovative sustainability”, implicitly representing the desire to combine innovation with sustainability, through increasingly responsible processes towards people and the environment. The integration in its corporate mission, in addition to profit objectives, of a positive impact on society and the biosphere has given the company the opportunity to obtain the status of Benefit Corporation. Sustainability and corporate responsibility materialize in many ways, in particular in the implementation of a company policy aimed at improving its results, in organizational, economic, product quality and development terms focusing on market issues and logistics, in compliance with the principles of environmental protection and social protection. Beside classic products, the company located in Fermo (Macerata), offers a vast range of innovative and natural items protected by exclusive patent coverage, thanks to important investments in research and development and to the latest generation technologies.
Benefit companies represent a real evolution of the very concept of a company, does it apply to you too?
“Absolutely. We carry on our mantra by integrating it with actions aimed at the economic and social development of our geographical area”.
Being a Benefit Corporation is a very important goal. What’s the next step?
“Among our commitments there is the respect the environment focusing on products and processes. We want to develop new articles able to increasingly reduce the impact on our ecosystem and embrace sustainability, starting from three focal points: welfare, long life and naturalness, which is the most important. Furthermore, we want to spread our message through targeted communication, informing the entire supply chain about these specific issues and on what can be done to promote the circular economy. The crucial mission of being a benefit corporation is to generate value, above mere profit.”
You participated in the project “Dialogue with Benefit companies. 12 Interviews between challenges and opportunities”. How was this collaboration born?
“I have been participating in the CRS for several years now, since 2017. This year, CSRnatives Network wanted to publish an e-book dedicated to those entrepreneurial realities that have embarked on this path of sustainability. A beautiful dissemination project through which we were able to tell our story and our experience”.
What future do you imagine for benefit companies like yours?
“I imagine, and I hope, that Benefit companies are increasingly valued. The tanning world linked to fashion, compared to other sectors, seems to be still a little behind. It still takes time to develop this culture. Furthermore, it would be nice for the Benefit Companies to recognize each other and decide to work together for a common purpose”.
Do you have a dream linked to the commitment you have undertaken?
“We are convinced that following the path of sustainability, and the resulting value, imperative for the future. We would like to give the companies in our supply chain the opportunity to engage with our products to become circular and sustainable. We are at the disposal and, in this way, we create value for the final consumer who will be able to make increasingly conscious choices. But it is not possible to do this alone, it is essential rely on an open-minded supply chain”.
Your “Talking leather” app was created for this purpose, right?
“The supply chain has the duty to clarify any information needed to achieve and reach traceability. Conceria Nuvolari, aware that communication in the tanning sector is very important, especially regarding impact and emissions issues, strongly believes in this project”.
