From Tuscany, a century of passion for textile and the environment

Lenzi Egisto launches Micro Lenzi, an innovative textile reinforcement in cohesive fibers without resins and Vegan Wool, a proposal made of 100% recyclable vegetable fibres, in addition to its unceasing experimentation on finishes and fibers.

Lenzi Egisto: a name that evokes over a century of textile history, intertwined with the culture of recycling and innovation. Founded in 1898 in Prato (Tuscany) from the intuition of Egisto Lenzi, the company has stood out since its origins for its commitment to recovering noble fibers from discarded clothing, anticipating sustainability concepts that are central today. From its pioneering recycling activity, the company evolves rapidly, becoming a renowned producer of “unconventional” fabrics, the result of a constant search for innovative textile solutions. Over the last thirty years, Lenzi Egisto has consolidated itself as a point of reference in the sector of safety textiles, military clothing and functional fashion. Among its revolutionary innovations are barrier fabrics for safety footwear, which have replaced heavy steel plates, and Jacquard fabrics with high-tech fibers, appreciated by major fashion brands for their resistance, functionality and charm. Today, Lenzi Egisto takes up the challenge of sustainability, developing highly innovative solutions. The company thus confirms itself as a protagonist of an eco-compatible textile future, combining tradition and innovation at the service of the planet, an approach that will lead it to GRS certification by October. We talk about it with Lilia Di Lauro, Sales Manager of the Tuscan company.
What have been the main developments and innovations introduced by your company in terms of sustainability and respect for the environment in recent years?
“Micro Lenzi is our response to the increasingly urgent need from high fashion brands to use sustainable materials even inside bags and shoes. Made of 100% nylon, also recycled, this innovative fabric is a valid alternative to traditional microfiber, nowadays produced in Asia with unsustainable processes. As it’s a single-fiber fabric, it’s easily recyclable and reusable, in line with the principles of the circular economy. Available in several thicknesses and designed to be coupled, Micro Lenzi is perfect for use in footwear and leather goods. Constant research and innovation are our key values: we are always looking for new fibers, finishes and solutions to combine sustainability and high technical performance, satisfying the needs of our customers and anticipating market trends”.
What other news are you focusing on?
“Our company has recently relaunched the Fashion Line, which we presented at the Textile Preview fair in Scandicci. This fair is dedicated to fashion accessories, a key district for the production of high-end bags. On this occasion, we exhibited a new collection of jacquards made with nylon, also recycled, processed to obtain technical and at the same time fashionable effects. As a matter of fact, the current trend is to mix technical fibers and fashion appearance, in line with the growing interest in technical clothing also in the luxury sector. Taking advantage of our skills, we will use innovative yarns such as Dyneema and Putek, normally used in mountain and safety footwear, to create new fashion proposals boasting resistance and performance. This will be our main innovation, but we will also launch an innovative treatment for linen, which gives it the appearance and softness typical of wool. We have called this new proposal “Vegan Wool”, since it is exclusively linen processed to obtain this soft and woolly effect, without using any animal fiber. This linen treatment allows us to offer our customers a new, eco-sustainable alternative that recalls the aesthetics of wool, but keeps the natural and breathable properties of linen”.
