Dani and Montblanc together to offset CO2 emissions

The collaboration between the historic tannery in Arzignano and the luxury maison of the Richemont group continues in support of the Create to Change project.

Aiming at a sustainable future is a real vocation for DANI that translates into a history of certified primates and constant commitment to the traceability of raw materials, reliability of manufacturing processes, ethical commitment and respect for the environment. A way of thinking, working, and choosing oriented towards a sustainable growth model that finds its highest expression in the Create to Change project, the solution developed by DANI to offset emissions in response to the Kyoto Protocol.

A project espoused and supported as one of the first by Montblanc which, for the second year running, has decided to offset 1000 tonnes of CO2 relating to 2021 production, supporting the Hanuman Agro Industries Limited project in India for the production of electricity from renewable sources, demonstrating the commitment of the historic luxury Maison, synonymous with craftsmanship excellence, to reduce its environmental impact.

“We are very proud to continue our collaboration with Montblanc, a long-standing partnership made up of shared values and common goals,” says Giancarlo Dani, President and CEO of DANI. “What we offer our customers is not only the excellence of Made in Italy leather, but also the guarantee of traceability of raw materials, reliability of manufacturing processes, ethical commitment and environmental sustainability. With the Create to Change project, we have taken this a step further by offering our partners the possibility of offsetting 100 per cent of the life cycle of the leather they process.”

Create to Change is a project on offsetting that stems from traceability. Thanks to the certified Life Cycle Assesment System, DANI is able to map the real impact of each product by considering the entire life cycle of the leather, from origin to destination, without stopping only at the intermediate production and transformation processes that take place within the tannery.

Offsetting follows the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM), the mechanism under the Kyoto Protocol that allows companies to offset their emissions by purchasing credits to finance sustainable growth projects in developing countries. Access to these projects is through the United Nations Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), which allows the purchase of credits called CERs (Certified Emission Reduction). One credit is equivalent to one tonne of CO2 not emitted or absorbed.

“By embarking on the second year of this partnership and The Create to Change project, we are reaffirming our commitment to the industry and our customers by striving for more sustainable and environmentally conscious products. This reflects the importance we place on sustainable materials and processes alongside the craftsmanship and design that distinguishes Montblanc. In addition to offsetting 100% of the life cycle of the leather we work with, we are excited to collaborate on researching and developing new ways to reduce our impact on the environment now and in the future,” says Jean Charles Hita,  Managing Director Montblanc Leather Division

A Create to Change project that today sees two companies of recognized excellence working together: because this is the mark, they are committed to leaving on the world.
