World leader in the production of tannin, SILVATEAM displayed leathers made with Ecotan technology at Lineapelle, lineapelle New York, Première Vision and ProssimaPelle
SILVATEAM Spa has restarted at full speed after a year and a half without trade fairs. In the last part of 2021 the company, headquartered in San Michele Mondovì (Cuneo province, Italy), exhibited at two important international events in the sector, such as Lineapelle in Milan and Première Vision in Paris in September, as well as at ProssimaPelle, hosted in the tanning district of Vicenza at the end of October. In each of the events, different products and collections were presented according to the themes promoted by the organizers.
“In the two Italian exhibitions, in particular here at ProssimaPelle – explained Alessandra Taccon, Project Director of Ecotan, interviewed in Arzignano – we presented our latest developments, which have gone on to further implement our range of Ecotan leathers, made using natural tannins and ecosustainable biopolymers, with zero impact on health and the environment. These are important innovations, expected by the market: after gaining a good reputation in the fashion world, in particular with regard to footwear, leather goods and fashion accessories in general, we are now working to establish ourselves in the automotive and furniture industry. For all these sectors, our laboratories are developing several innovative solutions, which will soon be presented to tanneries and brands. It’s the result of 18 months of intense R&D activities, which lead us to new concepts we are about to launch worldwide in the future.”
At Silvateam there is confidence in view of the new year. “In 2022 – concludes Alessandra Taccon – the development of new extracts will continue. We are also doing a great job that goes beyond the world of tanning: our Group exports to over 80 countries around the world, boasting around 20 thousand customers, in different sectors, from the tanning industry, to food & beverage, animal nutrition and cosmetics. The launch of new products is already planned, hoping that the recovery from the pandemic will push the world economy to gradually come back to normal. The common thread of all our new projects is sustainability because we start from nature and go back to nature: tannin, a polyphenolic substance that is extracted from wood, ensures leather, a by-product of the meat industry, is performing and has extraordinary features. In particular, it avoids the formation of an environment where bacteria proliferate, therefore, favoring the elimination of odors. But that’s not all. The leathers tanned with Ecotan technology can be recycled into fertilizers for organic agriculture at the end of their life cycle. In this way the leather closes the circle, returning to nature as a useful nutrient to increase the profitability of agricultural production and, consequently, also of the livestock production from which the raw material for tanning derives. We are at the forefront with this new technology that will inspire the industry to move towards more sustainable concepts.”
