What impressions did you gather during this last edition of  Simac Tanning Tech?
‘In general, I had positive impressions of the market. The economy seems to be starting to recover, even if the economic data are still not enthusiastic. In particular, in the footwear sector, which has been particularly hard hit by the crisis, we have noticed an increase in orders since September. I believe this increase is due to several factors, including the end of the rise of raw material prices, which have returned to acceptable levels; and the destocking effect, which has led companies to reduce their inventories. Although the situation is still evolving, I believe this is a positive sign for the future of our industry.”
In your opinion, what will the trend be?
“It is true that in the last one and a half years there has been a lot of speculation on commodity prices, by all players in the supply chain. This speculation has had a cumulative effect, which has contributed to rising prices and inflation. It is difficult to make predictions, as the market is influenced by several factors, including supply and demand, production costs and geopolitical events. In particular, the current geopolitical issues are creating a climate of uncertainty, which consequently has a major impact on the entire sector. We are monitoring future developments, mostly abroad’.
What is your presence on the international market?
“The export share of our production is on average 40-50%, but can reach 70-80% in some sectors.”
What is your focus today?
“Our prerogative is to remain focused on research and development of new products and solutions, continuing our path of renewal. Research, new technologies, and innovation are fundamental and basic elements for our company to be able to increase competitive capacity and productivity, and to meet the new needs of the sector. In the last year we have presented ourselves on the market with new sustainable compounds, i.e. products with varying percentages of reclaimed material and products made using renewable sources, a concrete solution to reduce environmental impact. One of the most important recent innovations is a series of products containing micro-algae. Here it was necessary to proceed with an in-depth study on how to use them, but the results have been satisfactory. Thanks to the use of these biomaterials and the natural plasticity of algae, we have developed a new line that retains the main characteristics of EVAtech compounds while preserving environmental resources and reducing emissions from the footwear industry. Our commitment continues on this track.
Has the response met your expectations in terms of speed?
“We are focused on offering the market what the market wants. We are always ready to receive input and adapt to the most demanding requests. We are also convinced that we have created a valid offer, also in terms of product range, but we await the responses of the market with curiosity. The fair is an opportunity to meet new clients and to understand market trends. Compared to last year, we have noticed a growing interest in our products and services. We are feeling positive.”
