IILF 36 Chennai – on display the entire range of products related to the leather industry

IILF 36th edition of the India International Leather Fair was held at the Chennai Trade Centre on February 2023. The event, a reference point for the footwear, tannery and leather goods machinery sector, took place again after a two-year break due to the pandemic, celebrating Indian leather for India Leather Week 2023.

Hosting international exhibitors and visitors, it has been a great success, as expected. On the initiative of the ICE office in New Delhi and in collaboration with Assomac, the Italian association of footwear, leather goods and tannery technology manufacturers, Italy has organised, for the first time, its own national pavilion which saw sixteen Italian companies, both directly as well as with local agents. “With 10.84 million euro of exports and a market share of 11.87%, in 2022 Italy confirmed its 3rd place on the global market, after China and Taiwan, as a supplier of leather processing machinery”, explained the Director of the ICE Office in New Delhi, Alessandro Liberatori, who participated as a guest of honor at the inauguration of the event.

Speaking at a press event ahead of the show, Council for Leather Exports (CLE) Executive Director R Selvam said: “Over 400 domestic and international companies will participate in this fair. Several entrepreneurs from across the world will display their products, technology and ensure an exchange of knowledge.”
Sanjay Leekha, Chairman of the CLE, noted that leather products and footwear exports from India reached US$4.25 billion from April to December 2022 and the financial year is expected to end in March 2023 at US$5.7 billion if the pace is maintained, exceeding targets.
