Factory of innovative ideas, LABAM produces high fashion accessories using only high quality, sustainable and recyclable materials
LABAM, a made-in-Italy company specializing in the creation of custom resin products for the fashion sector, as usual participated in Lineapelle presenting several innovations able to express the excellence tradition that for three generations has guided the company founded in 1949 by the entrepreneur Oreste Cavalca. “We came to the fair with a long list of new items, buckles, handles, chains, broadening the line of components in general,” says Matteo Cavalca, who, together with his sister Annalisa, represents the third generation of the company based in the province of Parma. “The research activity focuses mainly on the development of new colors and materials. We only use sustainable and completely recyclable materials (polymethylmethacrylate for example, known under the trade name of Plexiglas, is recycled in a percentage close to 100%). Even in the creation of high fashion accessories, the new watchwords are reuse and recycling. The accessories made with recycled materials coming from post- consumer plastic waste are very popular; we can obtain a degree of color brightness very close to that achieved by using virgin raw material. However, the same cannot be said for materials composed of bio-based polymers (for example obtained from corn or wood fibers), for which aesthetic needs must necessarily take a back seat.”
The entire production and finishing process takes place within the company, thanks to skilled labor and a lot of craftsmanship, except in special cases: “We rely on local contractors for specific needs, for example if we have to develop a metal barb of unconventional dimensions,” continues Mr. Cavalca. “All of this, of course, does not allow us to ‘win the price war’ compared to those who import and resell, but we want our final product to keep a different meaning compared to the import range. We have always outstood on the market because we believe in the made in Italy label, behind which there is a complex construction. Obviously, our articles are still imitated and this penalizes us, confirming however the quality of what we offer. The strategy is to always stay one step ahead, after all, the space to invent is limitless.”
