Moro Minuterie, style, innovation & quality

A female story that started in 1974 thanks to the competence and entrepreneurial flair of Nildo Moro, who founded the Paduan company Moro Minuterie, specialized in the production and marketing of metal accessories for footwear and leather goods. The untimely death of its founder, in 1995, prompted his wife and three daughters to join forces to carry on the business and make his dream come true. The company is today an excellence in the sector, a national and international leader.
We talked about it with the CEO Silvia Moro, who made an overview about the company and its future projects.
“The next year will be celebrating fifty years since the establishment of Moro Minuterie. When my father founded it, he had just left a large company of small metal parts. That’s where he gained experience in the field, learning on the job, firsthand using the milling machine and lathe, tools with which he made the prototyping and the pilot mold that would be used to produce the finished article. After his death, we two eldest daughters, together with my sister’s husband, also a partner, and my mother, continued his path. And the company has evolved. In 2000, my sister and brother-in-law opened a sister factory in Mexico, in the city of León – an excellent choice, given that they have been producing for the local and American markets for twenty-three years. My mother retired in 2004, and my younger sister, who had joined in the meantime, worked with us until 2019, then she chose to devote herself to the hospitality sector.
These are our first 50 years and we expect more developments in the near future.”
What are your target markets?
“We mainly supply Italy but we serve the whole world directly or indirectly, through resellers. We serve European and non-European Union countries, Central America, South America and the Middle East, where there is an important production of sandals. The turnover is divided equally between Italy and the rest of the world; abroad we are mainly present in Europe, Africa, the Middle East, India and Canada”.
You boast a huge assortment of products; is there anything you excel at?
“We offer a wide range of small metal products, including eyelets, rivets, studs, snap buttons and rings, capable of adapting to any type of garment in the footwear, leather goods and clothing sectors. A highly requested and appreciated product is our very topical sandal buckle. We also make hooks and eyelets which, due to their versatility and sturdiness, are used on military footwear and in the work&safety sector, in which more than others the choice of quality metal accessories is essential to ensure functionality and safety; this segment covers a third of our production.”
The production sector selects companies on the basis of the service.
“Exactly. Thanks to the know-how that we have acquired in fifty years, we are not satisfied with focusing only on the quality of the product, but we also pay great attention to the service offered to the customer, a prerogative that generates his satisfaction so to let him contact us again in the future.
We meticulously take care of the packing of our products and of the materials for their production, which must be 100% made in Italy. Furthermore, being a capitalized company, we can afford to have a very large warehouse and therefore satisfy customer requests in the shortest possible time, guaranteeing rapid deliveries. We invest in our warehouse, a very appreciated feature by our customers. Not to mention the fact that even in moments of market fluctuation we always have the warehouse ready, and this allows us to keep prices controlled. The challenges we had to face in recent years have strengthened and consolidated our goals for growth and positioning in the market of accessories for footwear and leather goods.”
How is sustainability important in your company?
“I believe that the female management of our company for over thirty years can also be perceived by these small but basic precautions. Like the attention to sustainability and the environment, the founding value of our company. For this we have implemented several initiatives. With our new ERP system, for example, we are able to keep the entire production chain under control, to provide our customers with a complete and detailed certification of our products, each of which can be traced from the initial to the final stage. We recently installed a photovoltaic system on the roof of our 4000 sqm building in the industrial area of Padua which allows us to cover a large part of our energetic needs with clean and renewable energy. We also completely recycle the waste from our processes: the metal scrap is resold to the steel mills from which we then buy it back, in a completely sustainable way.
We firmly believe that even small actions can make a difference for a better future of our planet.”
