Sc Costruzioni, technology serving the environment

At the trade fair in Milan, S.C. Costruzioni Meccaniche showcased the best products in its range, in particular related to sustainability

S.C. Costruzioni Meccaniche, based in Empoli (Florence) and specialized in the design, construction and installation of auxiliary systems and equipment for various industrial sectors, especially tannery machinery and purification plants, stood out among the protagonists of Simac Tanning Tech 2023 edition. The company, which has been in business since the mid-1980s, has set its production lines towards two precise goals that reflect the primary needs of the industrial world: environmental protection and work safety.
“In service of the environment” is the main slogan (also highlighted on the home page of the website) of S.C. Costruzioni Meccaniche, at whose stand we met Roberto Calattini, at the head of the Tuscan company together with his other partner, Fabio Scardigli. “This year we did not present any significant news,’’ Calattini says, “deciding to consolidate the main products in our range, which are filtration, water and air protection, and workplace safety. Environmental protection for us is a strategy that we have always pursued and that we will further strengthen given that the regulations on the subject have become increasingly stringent and will become more so in the future. We maintain that rules must be respected above all to protect the health of everyone. Of course, this process will not stop, this greater strictness must be respected in Italy as well as in all other countries, starting with the European ones. We have always believed in the importance of these values, basing our daily work and preference on sustainable products: the choices made in the past are proving us right.”
The result of this year trade fair is positive. “Although we are still far from the attendance levels we had in the pre-pandemic years,” adds Calattini, “we saw more foreigners in the halls, in the end the increase in operators from abroad, especially from other continents, is a consolidated fact and a good sign for the future. Honestly, we had hoped for something more, however certainly better than last year: we got contacts at our stand, what matters now is to translate them into something concrete. The important thing, however, is to attend trade fairs, especially that of Milan, which is one of the most important exhibitions in the leather sector worldwide. In the end, this is our job, we are here and we strongly believe in what we do. The overall economic situation does not help, but we must have confidence in the future.”
Finally, here we come to the almost final assessment of the current year and the prospects for the next one. “The forecast for 2023,” concludes the co-owner of S.C. Costruzioni Meccaniche, “is a stable one compared to 2022, we should close near break-even, we do not believe that the last few months will influence the final statement one way or the other. In 2024 we will certainly develop some new products, we have a few projects in mind, but we have not yet decided when to launch them on the market. Undoubtedly it is a difficult time for the market, many people are complaining. In such a situation, precisely in light of a generalized difficulty, companies are asked for discounts on price lists, with the aim of spending less. However, as we have a medium-high quality range of products, we are almost always unable to compete at low prices, we can’t do miracles: we will continue to operate at the high-end of the market.”
